Introduction
Mallorca Cricket Club (MCC) is raising funds to develop a new cricket ground on the island. We have secured a 20-year lease on a beautiful plot of land set in a countryside location 20 minutes from Palma with easy access to the international airport.
We are looking to raise 70,000 euros, to create a new ground, clubhouse and facilities for the thriving cricket community on the island, and to host teams from around the world.
The surrounding land is currently being developed into a unique sports and social hub for the centre of the island, with other sporting activities such as padel, tennis and clay pigeon shooting, a bar and changing room facilities.
We are working closely with Cricket Espana who have agreed to fund the installation of an all-season, 2G artificial wicket, opening up the possibility of year-round cricket.
History
Mallorca Cricket Club (MCC) was created in 1988, and officially constituted and registered with the local government in 1992. Ever since then, we have hosted clubs from mainland Spain and the UK, including the actual MCC!
Between 2005 and 2015, the MCC had over 425 members, playing three times a week and hosting teams from across the Balearics, Spain and all of Europe.
Unfortunately, in 2015, the MCC ground in Magaluf was sold by the local Council to developers and we have been homeless ever since. Despite having no official space to play or practise, we have won the Balearic Cup in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
MCC is still a member of Cricket España and has a regular senior Men’s team that includes ex-international and county players, and a junior team for all children aged 6-14 years old (Mallorca Meerkats) Currently we have 20 senior playing members, 30 junior members and 100 non-playing members. We also have a group of 5 coaches who are soon to be ECB accredited
We have a Management Committee that manages both cricket clubs and a membership scheme for all players who pay an annual fee to join.
